Wanted: One top notch coach to prepare the Dubbo Crows for next year’s Western Premier League series.

There’s no money involved, according to player Gavin Weekes, the person they are looking for will coach æfor the love of the game.’

There is no panic yet but the Crows would like to get someone tied down in the position early into the new year but probably by the first week in January.

“We’ve got a meeting planned for Saturday, January 7 when we want to talk about the season – who the coach may be and when to starting training,” Weekes said.

“All the players from last year have been invited to the meeting which will be held at the Commercial Hotel starting at 2pm.

“We’re also keen to get the meeting and coaching position out there into the streets bearing in mind that there could be some new players or someone qualified to coach coming to Dubbo to live during the holiday period.”

This year’s coach, the valuable Andrew Johnston, has indicated he won’t be available but will stay on as a player.

In recent years the Crows have been fortunate to have the services of Johnston, Mark Barnes and Mal Blackstock and according to Weekes, the Crows won’t settle for anything less than a semi-final spot in 2007.

“After being so close last season, everyone is keen to go to the next level,” Weekes said.

“We put in a few ordinary performances at the wrong end of the season and it cost us.”

The exciting talents of Samuel Mould and State under 18s rep Brett Seton will be good for the club again in 2007 while Patrick Mould and Jarat Johnston are certain to be given game time.

There again hopefully will be the likes of Mick Lane, Andrew Johnston and Scotty Miller which will provide a nice blend of youth and experience.

Weekes said another good sign for a new coach was that the team comprises a closely knit æbunch of blokes.’

“That’s one of the enjoyable aspects of the Crows is that all the players get on well,” he said.

Inquiries about the Crows coaching position should contact the hockey association office on 6882 9105.
